Care Assistance

As a Domiciliary Carer at New Living, you will play a crucial role in providing personalised, compassionate care and support to our clients in their own homes. You will assist individuals with a wide range of daily living activities, helping them to maintain their independence, dignity, and overall well-being. This role offers flexibility, variety, and the profound satisfaction of truly impacting someone's life every day.

We offer roles for individuals seeking various levels of engagement, from part-time visiting care to full-time live-in care opportunities.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Job: What You'll Do

Your responsibilities as a carer will be diverse, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. They encompass a holistic approach to care, ensuring our clients receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs.

1. Role-Specific Duties (Delivering Direct Care):

  • Personal Care: Assisting clients with personal hygiene routines, including washing, bathing, showering, dressing, grooming, and continence management, always ensuring dignity and privacy.
  • Medication Support: Administering or prompting medication safely and accurately, adhering to care plans and company policies.
  • Mobility Assistance: Supporting clients with safe moving and handling, transfers, and mobility around their home and in the community, utilising equipment where necessary.
  • Meal Preparation: Planning and preparing nutritious and appealing meals, assisting with feeding if required, and catering to specific dietary needs or preferences.
  • Light Household Tasks: Assisting with general tidying, laundry, and maintaining a clean and comfortable living environment for the client.
  • Companionship & Emotional Support: Providing a friendly, empathetic presence, engaging in conversation, hobbies, and activities, and offering emotional reassurance to combat loneliness or anxiety.
  • Specialised Care: Providing targeted support for clients with specific conditions, such as:Dementia care (maintaining routine, communication, sensory awareness).
    Palliative and end-of-life care (comfort, dignity, symptom observation).
    Complex medical needs (e.g., catheter care, PEG feeding, stoma care – with appropriate training and competency).
    Disability care (supporting independence, communication, community access).
    Mental health support (understanding triggers, promoting well-being, routine).
    Autism care (understanding sensory needs, communication, predictable routines).
  • Promoting Independence: Encouraging and enabling clients to do as much for themselves as possible, fostering confidence and self-reliance.
  • Accurate Record Keeping: Maintaining clear, concise, and timely records of care provided, observations, and any changes in the client's condition.

2. Working with Others (Collaboration & Communication):

  • Client & Family Collaboration: Building positive, respectful relationships with clients and their families, ensuring open communication and involving them in care decisions.
  • Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with fellow carers, supervisors, and office staff, sharing relevant information and supporting colleagues.
  • Professional Liaison: Communicating professionally and effectively with other healthcare professionals, such as GPs, district nurses, therapists, and social workers, to ensure integrated and holistic care.
  • Reporting: Promptly reporting any concerns, incidents, or changes in a client's health or well-being to the appropriate line manager or healthcare professional.
